CONNECTING TO YOUR DASHTRAK WELLNESS SUBSCRIPTION

The online DashTrak Wellness Subscription is the perfect companion to the DashTrak. By uploading your recorded DashTrak data to www.walkstyles.com, you can plan, manage and track your physical and mental wellness goals to achieve your personal best.

The subscription, like your healthy lifestyle, is about walking! By uploading your physical data, you will see a high-performance dashboard that snapshots your daily steps and more into an easy-to-read format.

With a simple USB connection to your Windows PC, you immediately see:

  • Daily steps
  • Calories burned
  • Miles/kilometers traveled
  • Heart rate information (if you have the WalkStyles heart rate strap)
  • Weekly step information
  • Historical step data
  • Fun facts about the entire WalkStyles population

You can explore further into any area to get sophisticated charts that detail your pace, heart rate and more. You can also create a personal step goal program, compare yourself to other walkers, and set up WalkBuddies, communities and clubs.

Walking benefits both your physical and mental wellness. To help you focus on this, you can log information on physical and mental wellness worksheets, set daily and weekly goals, record notes and thoughts about your day, and log nutrition and exercise information each day.

The worksheets combined with your step data make up your online journal – a high-tech tool that records your progress towards achieving maximum wellness. You can review your past journal pages at any time.

The DashTrak Wellness Subscription features articles from wellness experts on topics including fitness, nutrition, productivity and relationships. You will also find daily tips on each of these subjects to motivate you on your journey.

SETUP

In order to take advantage of all the great features in the DashTrak Wellness System, you must follow the instructions in this document. This process will ensure your DashTrak communicates properly with your DashTrak Wellness Subscription.

Note: Completing this initial setup process will clear all current DashTrak step data.

  1. Set up your DashTrak as described in the Quick Start Guide.

  2. Install the DashTrak USB driver.  Note: The DashTrak USB driver is pre-loaded onto Windows Me, XP, 2000 and above, but not yet installed.  If you are using Windows98, please click here for instructions specific to your operating system and then resume with step 3. 

    1. Be sure your DashTrak display reads SAFE TO CONNECT TO PC by pressing the MENU button on the unit, then connect your DashTrak to your PC using the USB cable included.

    2. Windows will automatically install the proper drivers. Note: Please be patient. This process can take up to 30 seconds and your PC may display several messages during the installation. You will receive a message that your hardware is installed and ready to use at the end of the installation process. If you receive a ‘Failed to Install” error this is not a problem. Simply disconnect your DashTrak, return it to the SAFE TO CONNECT screen, and reconnect the device to your PC. The installation should complete without any additional errors.

    3. Once successful, you may receive a Window dialog box titled “Removable Disk” (see Figure 1). Select “Take No Action” and, if the option is available, select the checkbox “Always perform the selected action” and select OK.

      Note: If a folder should open, simply close it.

  3. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer and navigate to www.walkstyles.com.

  4. Click the Join Us tab toward the top left of the page.

    1. Complete the sign-up form.

    2. As instructed, check your email inbox (of the email address you used to subscribe) for your confirmation email and temporary password.

    3. After receiving your email, click on the Home tab and log into your new account.

    4. Follow the prompts to establish a permanent password.


  5. Go to the DashTrak Settings Webpage.

    1. a. Depending upon your operating system you will see an Information Bar message or a Windows dialog box.

      1. If you see an Information Bar message (see Figure 2) click on that bar and then

        click "Install ActiveX Control..." (see Figure 3). Note: you may receive an additional prompt or dialog box. If so, choose "Install".

      2. If you see a dialog box similar to the ones pictured below (see Figures 4 & 5), select "Install" or "Yes" as appropriate.

    2. When you arrive at the DashTrak Settings webpage, you will note the settings you entered in your DashTrak previously have transferred to your personal WalkStyles webpage.

  6. Click UPDATE DASHTRAK , even if you have not changed any settings. This ensures that your DashTrak is coded to your account and is ready to record your steps for upload.

  7. IMPORTANT! When you’re ready to disconnect, click on “Safely Remove Hardware” on the Windows status bar (see Figure 6), then click “Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device”. (Win98 users please click here for further instructions.)

  8. Unplug your DashTrak, clip it to your waist (above your right knee) and get walking!


Note: Your DashTrak will recharge while connected to a PC. The DashTrak has an advanced battery management system, so you can’t overcharge the battery and it doesn’t have a memory, so you don’t have to charge it fully like many cellular phones. When you first connect, just ensure your DashTrak display reads, “DASHTRAK…CHARGING”. If it doesn’t just press any button to wake the unit.

UPLOADING STEP DATA TO YOUR SUBSCRIPTION

  1. Be sure your DashTrak display reads SAFE TO CONNECT TO PC by pressing the menu button on the unit, then connect your DashTrak to your PC using the USB cable included

  2. Go to www.walkstyles.com and log in using your login (your email address) and password.

  3. You’ll arrive at your WalkStyles personalized Dashboard

  4. Click on Load DashTrak Data
    1. Data will upload to your Dashboard
      Note: You may upload your DashTrak data however you prefer - many times per day or once every two months (this is the longest we suggest you wait).

  5. Enjoy the many charts and graphs of your data and the comparisons to other walker-subscribers in and out of your walking communities.

  6. Follow the “Safely Remove Hardware” process before disconnecting your DashTrak

CHARGING

You can charge your DashTrak using either the included charger or USB cable. The charger plugs directly into your DashTrak and into the wall. The USB cable plugs into your DashTrak and into your PC. (In the same way you connect to update your subscription.)

With normal activity, your DashTrak will remain charged for 1 – 3 days. When the low battery warning appears, charge your DashTrak immediately. If your DashTrak loses charge completely, some step data may be lost.

GOALS

The DashTrak Wellness System is one of the best tools you can employ to help you reach your wellness goals! The System combines the DashTrak and DashTrak Wellness Subscription to help plan, manage and track how you Live Your Dash™!

The starting point to a healthy lifestyle is setting a daily step goal. Experts believe that 10,000 steps a day, or about 5 miles, is a great goal for most people.* If you’re new to walking, you may want to set a smaller step goal and work your way to 10,000 steps. Members who are already active may want to set a goal above 10,000 steps. Whatever goals you choose, the DashTrak will let you know you’ve reached that goal with a fun message alert.

As a subscriber, you can even program personalized motivational messages to appear on your DashTrak throughout the day to encourage you to reach your step goals. Maybe you’d like some encouragement around the 5,000-step mark to let you know you’re halfway there, or maybe you’d like a message when you’ve surpassed 10,000 steps and walked 12,000 steps. As a DashTrak Wellness Subscription subscriber, it is easy to change your personalized messages and goals.

Because all big successes are made of smaller ones, tracking your daily goal is critical. But personal wellness is a lifetime goal. This is where the DashTrak Wellness Subscription is really important. By logging each day’s results, you can track your progress toward your lifetime goal. The Subscription also provides tools to set both physical and mental wellness goals in addition to walking and track progress against those as well.
